New rules for wind turbines, a community fund, and biomethane support

The act reduces the minimum distance of wind turbines from homes to 500 meters and introduces mandatory fees from energy producers for the benefit of local residents. It also abolishes the 10H rule, regulates the modernization of old turbines, and creates a new support system for biomethane producers. The changes will affect the development of wind energy, electricity bills, and the possibility of receiving an annual payment for people living near wind farms.
Key points
The minimum distance of new wind turbines from residential buildings will be 500 meters, instead of the previous 700 meters or 10 times the height.
Homeowners within 1000 meters of a turbine can receive up to PLN 20,000 annually from a new participation fund created by the investor.
A ban on placing turbines in military airport controlled zones (MCTR and MRT) and new distance rules from national roads have been introduced.
Modernization of existing wind farms will be easier – with a power increase of up to 20%, a full environmental procedure is not required again.
The act creates a new auction system for biomethane, aiming to encourage the production of this green fuel and facilitate the connection of biogas plants to the grid.
