State to fund cleanup of "ecological bombs" in five Polish cities

The central government will take over the financing for cleaning up Poland's most contaminated post-industrial sites. Residents of Bydgoszcz, Jaworzno, Tarnowskie Góry, Zgierz, and Tomaszów Mazowiecki will not have to bear these huge costs from local budgets, speeding up the removal of threats to their health and environment.
Key points
The state budget will fully finance the cleanup of areas contaminated by former state-owned chemical plants.
The cleanup task becomes a government-commissioned duty for municipalities, not their own financial responsibility.
The goal is to protect residents' health and drinking water resources from toxic pollution.
The new regulations will cover a broader range of areas, including those where waste was located in the past.
