New rules for counting seniority: service, self-employment, contracts
This law expands the list of periods that count towards an employee's period of employment, which affects employee rights. Employees can include time spent in uniformed services, running a non-agricultural business, working on civil contracts, agency contracts, working abroad, and childcare periods during a business suspension. Workers must provide proof from ZUS (Social Insurance Institution) to their employer, who is then required to include them.

Service in the Police, State Protection Office, ABW, AW, SKW, SWW, CBA, BOR, SOP, Prison Service, Border Guard, State Fire Service, Marshal's Guard, and Customs and Fiscal Service counts towards the period of employment.
Periods of non-agricultural business activity, civil-law contracts (zlecenie), agency contracts, membership in agricultural production cooperatives or farmers' cooperatives, and work abroad can be added if contributions were paid or the periods are documented.
Time spent on childcare during a business suspension or as a cooperating person will also be counted if contributions were paid.
Employees have 24 months from the law's effective date (or from the date specified in Art. 9 for non-public employers) to provide their employer with ZUS certificates confirming these periods.
The provisions of the law apply to employers that are not public finance sector entities from the first day of the month following 6 months after the law's announcement.
