Professional Experience Counts: New Work Seniority Rules for Employees

The draft law amends the Labor Code, allowing periods of self-employment, work under civil law contracts, and service in certain uniformed formations to be included in work seniority. This enables citizens to gain rights to longer holidays, seniority bonuses, jubilee awards, and longer notice periods more quickly.
Key points
Periods of self-employment, work under mandate contracts, agency agreements, or as a cooperating person will be included in work seniority if ZUS contributions were paid.
Periods of service in the Marshal Guard and Customs and Tax Service will also be included in work seniority.
Employees will have 24 months from the law's effective date to document these periods with their employer.
New employee entitlements (e.g., longer holidays, seniority bonuses) will apply from January 1, 2026, with no claims for previous years.
Periods of business suspension for childcare, for which contributions were paid, will be included in work seniority, equalizing rules for entrepreneurs and employees.
Periods of paid employment for convicts (excluding specific-task contracts) will be included in work seniority to support rehabilitation.
