Changes to compulsory insurance: new rules for terminating policies

This law changes the rules for motor and farm liability insurance. The key change is that a new owner or holder of a vehicle or farm can now terminate the previous owner's insurance policy, and the policy will end on the date specified in the termination notice, not just at the end of the insurance period.
Key points
When buying a used car, you can terminate the previous owner's liability policy, and the insurance will end on the date stated in the termination notice.
A new holder of a farm can terminate the previous farmer's liability insurance, and the insurance will end on the date stated in the termination notice.
The same rules apply to farm building insurance – the new holder can terminate the policy, and the insurance will end on the date stated in the termination notice.
