End of RTV Fee and Liquidation of TVP Info
This draft law abolishes mandatory RTV subscription fees for radio and television sets and liquidates the TVP Info channel. Citizens will no longer have to pay these fees, and outstanding arrears will be cancelled. The changes aim to reduce financial burdens and improve the quality of public debate.
Key points
Abolition of RTV subscription fees: From January 1, 2026, citizens will no longer be required to pay monthly fees for owning radio and television receivers.
Cancellation of arrears: Proceedings regarding unpaid RTV subscription fees and enforcement actions will be automatically cancelled within 14 days of the law's announcement.
Liquidation of TVP Info: From January 1, 2026, public television will be prohibited from creating or broadcasting specialized information and public affairs programs, leading to the closure of the TVP Info channel.
Changes in public media funding: Public radio and television companies will lose subscription fee revenues (approx. PLN 643 million annually), which is intended to be partially offset by savings from TVP Info's liquidation and increased commercial revenues.
Sports competition name update: The Broadcasting Act will be updated to reflect current names of international UEFA football competitions (Europa League, UEFA Europa Conference League), effective within 14 days of the law's announcement.
