Financial support for shipowners for scrapping yachts due to the Baltic cod fishing ban

This law introduces one-time financial support for shipowners (small businesses) who scrap their commercial yachts or donate them free of charge. The support is meant to compensate for losses caused by the ban on cod fishing in the Baltic Sea since 2020. The total budget is 50 million PLN, and the amount of aid depends on the size of the vessel.
Key points
Financial support is granted only once per vessel (commercial yacht).
Shipowners can receive money after scrapping the yacht, committing to scrap it within 120 days, or donating it to a school or public authority.
The amount of support depends on the vessel's volume (from about 19,655 PLN per volume unit up to a maximum of 1,200,000 PLN).
The total program budget is 50 million PLN – if applications exceed this, payments will be proportionally reduced.
Applications are submitted to the director of the maritime office, and the program runs until December 31, 2026.
