New Rules for Found Items, Documents, and Money
This act introduces changes to how found items, documents, and money are handled. It specifies to whom findings should be reported, especially for documents with personal data, keys, or money. It also alters the rules for acquiring ownership of found items, affecting the rights and obligations of finders and owners.
Key points
Finders must report findings to the district governor, but can keep low-value money (up to 5% of minimum wage).
Documents with personal data and keys must be handed over to the district governor and will be destroyed if the owner is not found within a certain period.
If an item is found in public buildings or transport, it must be given to the manager, who has 30 days to find the owner before transferring it to the district governor.
Finders can report findings or hand over items to the district governor of their place of residence, simplifying formalities.
The period after which a finder can become the owner of an item has been changed to 6 months from the owner's summons or one year from the finding if the owner is unknown.
