More Support for Minors Repressed in PRL: New Rights and Benefits
A new law expands the group of individuals recognized as politically repressed during the Polish People's Republic era. It allows those who, as minors, faced corrective or educational measures for pro-independence activities to apply for special status. This opens the door to financial benefits, transport discounts, and priority healthcare access, aiming to rectify past injustices.
Key points
Repressed Person Status: The law enables individuals who, as minors (between 1956-1990), were subjected to corrective or educational measures for pro-independence activities to obtain the status of a politically repressed person, even if not formally convicted by a court.
Financial and Social Benefits: Those with the new status will be entitled to financial benefits, discounts on urban and national public transport, priority access to healthcare, and support in securing places in social welfare homes.
Additional Leave: Beneficiaries will gain the right to an additional 5 days of annual leave.
Budget Costs: These changes are expected to cost the state budget approximately 9.3 million PLN annually for the first 10 years, affecting around 264 individuals.
