More frequent gun owner medical checks: new rules for hunters and seniors
The draft law introduces mandatory, more frequent medical and psychological examinations for gun owners, especially hunters, athletes, and trainers. The changes aim to enhance public safety and reduce gun-related accidents, particularly among older individuals. Citizens owning firearms should expect additional costs and more frequent medical appointments.
Key points
All gun owners for hunting, sport, and training purposes will be required to undergo medical and psychological examinations every 5 years.
Individuals over 70 years old who own firearms will need to undergo medical and psychological examinations every 2 years.
The costs of examinations (approximately 550-600 PLN) will be borne by the gun owner, leading to additional expenses for citizens affected by the new regulations.
The new regulations will come into force 6 months after their announcement, with transitional periods for existing gun owners to comply.
