Stronger Protection Against Sexual Offenses: New Consent Definition
This law introduces important changes to the Penal Code, aiming to better protect citizens from sexual offenses. A key change is the explicit emphasis on lack of consent as the basis for classifying an act as a crime, and extending protection to individuals unable to consciously give consent. These changes are intended to increase safety and clarity in regulations concerning sexual freedom.
Key points
Rape is now clearly defined as sexual intercourse without consent, regardless of the methods used (violence, unlawful threat, deceit, or other means).
Criminal liability has been introduced for exploiting a victim's inability to consciously give consent for sexual intercourse or other sexual acts.
Protection has been extended to helpless individuals or those with limited capacity for conscious action who are sexually exploited.
The law will come into effect 6 months after its announcement.
