New Tourist Fee: Changes for Travelers and Municipalities
The draft law introduces a new tourist fee, replacing the existing local fee. This will allow more municipalities to collect fees from tourists, and their amounts can be differentiated. The changes aim to increase local government revenues, which can then be used to improve infrastructure and public services, compensating for costs associated with tourist traffic.
Key points
Every municipality will be able to introduce a tourist fee, regardless of climatic or landscape conditions.
The tourist fee will be collected from individuals staying longer than one day for tourism, recreation, or training purposes.
The maximum tourist fee rate will be 25% of the minimum hourly wage.
Municipalities will be able to differentiate the fee amount based on location (e.g., district) and whether accommodation was booked through an intermediary (e.g., a website).
Intermediaries, such as booking platforms, will be obliged to collect and transfer the tourist fee to the municipality.
The law will come into force on January 1, 2027, and existing local regulations will remain valid for another year.
