New Penalties for Patostreaming: Combating Harmful Online Content

This draft law introduces new provisions to the Penal Code aimed at combating so-called 'patostreaming'. It means that publicly disseminating online videos and recordings depicting serious crimes, animal cruelty, humiliating others, or illegal gambling will be punishable by imprisonment. The goal is to protect society, especially children and youth, from harmful content.
Key points
Introduction of prison sentences (from 3 months to 5 years) for publicly disseminating online content depicting serious crimes, such as violence, abuse of people or animals, or illegal gambling.
Penalties will also apply to disseminating simulated crimes if presented as authentic, aiming to prevent the promotion of harmful behaviors.
An exception is provided for artistic, educational, collecting, or scientific activities, but this does not apply to animal cruelty.
The law is set to come into force 30 days after its announcement, allowing time to adapt to the new regulations.
