Report on Family Support and Foster Care in 2024

The government report summarizes the situation of families in crisis and children in foster care in 2024. It highlights a growing number of children needing care (77,730), a shortage of places in 54% of counties, and a decline in adoptions. The average monthly cost of maintaining a child in a care institution was 8,564 PLN, nearly five times higher than in family foster care (1,763 PLN).
The number of domestic adoptions fell to 2,471, with 2,337 children waiting for new parents, while the number of prospective adoptive parents decreased by 12%.
In 1,774 municipalities (72% of all municipalities), there was no day-support center for children and families.
