Changes to European Arrest Warrant and Cross-Border Hearings

The law amends rules on the European Arrest Warrant. It introduces new procedures for hearings and temporary transfers of wanted persons between EU countries. For citizens, this means if you are wanted in another EU country, you may be heard in Poland or temporarily transferred, and after the case ends, you can return to Poland to serve a sentence.
Key points
A court may agree to hear a wanted person in Poland before deciding on their surrender to another EU country.
Wanted persons who are Polish citizens or reside in Poland may be surrendered on condition they return to Poland after the proceedings.
New rules clarify how to handle cases when a person already surrendered by another country is wanted under a new European Arrest Warrant.
