Pregnancy Sick Pay Changes: ZUS Pays from Day One.

New regulations shift the responsibility for paying sick benefits to pregnant women from employers to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) from the very first day of incapacity for work. This means employers will no longer bear the cost of sick pay for the first 33 days, aiming to reduce their reluctance to hire women of childbearing age. For pregnant women, the benefit amount remains unchanged (100% of the assessment basis), but it will be paid directly by ZUS.
Key points
Pregnant women will receive 100% sick benefit from ZUS from the first day of sick leave, without waiting 33 days for employer payment.
Employers will be relieved of the obligation to pay sick pay to pregnant women for the first 33 days, encouraging them to hire women on employment contracts.
The changes aim to reduce discrimination against women in the labor market and support stable employment, potentially positively influencing family planning decisions.
