Registered pledge reforms: time limits and digital registry

The act introduces a 20-year time limit for registered pledges, extendable by another 10 years. It transforms the pledge registry into a fully digital system, making access to information easier and procedures faster. The changes affect people taking loans for vehicles and other movable property.
Key points
Registered pledges automatically expire after 20 years unless extended by 10 years – previously there was no such limit.
The pledge registry becomes fully digital – applications and extracts can be handled online.
Courts will verify applicant data against PESEL and REGON registers – this increases transaction security.
For vehicle pledges, expiration information will automatically reach the vehicle registry – buyers can more easily check legal status.
