Digitalization of criminal trials and better data protection for witnesses and victims

The new regulations increase the security of personal data for witnesses and victims in criminal cases by hiding their sensitive details from the accused. At the same time, they simplify contact with courts and prosecutors through the use of email and phone, while completely phasing out obsolete faxes.
Key points
Better data protection: Your PESEL number, ID details, phone number, and email will not be included in the main protocol accessible to the accused, but kept in a secure, separate annex.
New information requirements: As a witness, you will need to provide your PESEL (or ID details), phone number, and email address during your first questioning.
Goodbye to faxes: Courts and law enforcement are completely phasing out faxes due to security risks; communication will now rely on mail, phone, or email.
Faster proceedings: Using the PESEL number for precise identification will help courts retrieve necessary documents (like medical or social security records) much faster.
Updated terminology: The law replaces the outdated term "dactyloscopic prints" with the modern "fingerprints".
