Changes to compensation for municipal property takeovers

New rules change how compensation is paid for properties taken over by municipalities for roads. Municipalities will no longer need to reserve budget funds for claims that nobody files. Compensation will only go to those who prove their property rights and submit a formal application.
Key points
Municipalities will stop having to reserve money for unfiled compensation claims.
Compensation will only be paid after an application is filed and property rights are proven.
Applicants have 6 years from the end of the year when the takeover decision became final.
Municipalities may pay compensation faster if their financial situation allows.
Changes also apply to past cases where decisions were made but compensation was not paid.
