Widow's Pension: New Rules for Combining Retirement and Survivor Benefits.

The draft law introduces the possibility of combining a survivor's pension after a deceased spouse with one's own retirement or disability pension. Citizens will be able to choose the more favorable option, receiving one benefit in full and the other at 60%, which aims to improve their financial situation after the loss of a spouse. The maximum amount of the widow's pension will be capped.
Key points
Widows and widowers will be able to combine a survivor's pension with their own retirement or disability pension, choosing the more beneficial option.
It will be possible to receive one benefit in full and the other at 60% of its amount.
The maximum amount of the widow's pension cannot exceed two and a half times the average pension paid by ZUS (Polish Social Insurance Institution).
Pension authorities (ZUS, KRUS) will inform eligible individuals about the new rules and benefit selection options.
The new regulations are expected to come into force on July 1, 2024, with benefits payable from that date if an application is submitted by the end of 2024.
