Changes to benefits for village leaders and persons unable to live independently
The draft law makes it easier for former village leaders (sołtys) to receive a financial benefit for their service by shortening the required period and simplifying documentation. Additionally, the sołtys benefit will no longer affect the amount of the supplementary benefit for persons unable to live independently, meaning these individuals can receive both benefits in full.
Key points
The required period of service as a village leader to receive the benefit is shortened from 8 to 7 years.
The sołtys benefit will also be available to persons who served only before 1990.
Documenting the period of service will be easier – written statements from 3 persons (instead of 5) will be sufficient.
The sołtys benefit will no longer reduce the supplementary benefit for persons unable to live independently.
New rules regarding the service period and documentation will also apply to applications submitted before the law comes into effect.
Changes to the supplementary benefit amount for persons receiving the sołtys benefit will occur automatically.
