Call to Suspend or Reform EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS)
Members of Parliament propose a resolution urging the government to act within the EU to suspend or reform the Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The aim is to halt rising energy and heating prices, which impact household budgets and businesses, and to accelerate investments in clean energy sources in Poland.
Key points
The draft resolution calls on the government to immediately suspend the EU ETS or exclude Poland from it.
The increase in CO2 emission allowance prices (from 7 to 71 euros per ton between 2017 and 2024) is passed on to consumers, threatening drastic increases in electricity and heating prices.
The EU ETS, instead of supporting, hinders energy transformation in Poland, forcing companies to finance expensive allowances instead of investing in modern technologies.
Suspending the EU ETS is intended to stop so-called green inflation and accelerate the construction of new, low-emission energy sources in Poland.
