Enhanced Powers and Protection for Uniformed Services in State Security Threats

This law streamlines the operations of the Armed Forces, Police, and Border Guard during state security threats. It introduces new rules for using force and weapons, and increases legal and financial protection for officers and soldiers acting in such circumstances. Citizens may experience increased security, but also broader powers for services in crisis situations.
Key points
Broader Powers for Uniformed Services: The Military, Police, and Border Guard gain wider capabilities to use direct coercive measures and firearms, especially in border defense and during peacetime military operations.
Increased Legal Protection for Officers: Soldiers, police, and border guards who use force or weapons in urgent threat situations, even if technically violating rules, may not be deemed to have committed a crime. They also gain the right to a public defender and funding for legal assistance.
Retention of Full Pay During Proceedings: Officers and soldiers suspended or arrested for duty-related offenses involving the use of force/weapons may retain their full remuneration.
Streamlined Crisis Operations: Urgent decisions can be communicated orally or electronically, and the Police can support the Border Guard when needed.
Formal Rules for Peacetime Military Operations: Rules for conducting military operations on Polish territory in peacetime are defined, requiring Presidential approval and parliamentary notification.
Free Legal Aid for Injured Soldiers: Soldiers who are victims of crimes while on duty will receive free legal assistance.
