Extended Maternity Leave and Benefit for Parents of Premature Babies
The draft law introduces the possibility of extending maternity leave and benefit for parents of children who require long hospitalization or hospice care after birth. This additional care time, up to 24 weeks, will be granted after the child is discharged from the hospital and can be used by either the mother or the father.
Key points
Parents of children hospitalized for more than 30 days in the first 45 days of life will be able to extend their maternity leave by the duration of the child's hospital stay, up to a maximum of 24 weeks.
The additional leave can be taken after the child returns home from the hospital.
The right to extended leave and maternity benefit will apply to both the mother and the father of the child (depending on the circumstances).
The changes affect both employees and insured individuals receiving maternity benefit (e.g., on civil contracts or running a business).
