Easier extension of disability certificates and parking cards
New regulations make it easier for people with disabilities to extend the validity of their certificates and support needs decisions. If you apply for a new certificate or decision before your current document expires, its validity will be automatically extended until a new decision is issued, for a maximum of 6 months. Additionally, parking cards expiring by the end of September 2024 will be valid until the end of March 2025.
Key points
You can apply for a new disability certificate or degree of disability certificate earlier: 2 months before the expiry of the disability certificate or 3 months before the expiry of the degree of disability certificate.
If you apply for a new certificate or support needs decision on time, your current document remains valid until a new one is issued, but for no longer than an additional 6 months from the original expiry date.
The district team will issue a certificate confirming the application and the extension of the validity of the current certificate.
Parking cards expiring by September 30, 2024, will remain valid until March 31, 2025.
