New rights for teenagers to psychiatric care without parental consent.
The Act introduces changes regarding teenagers' access to psychiatric care. Youth aged 13 and older will be able to use some outpatient services without parental consent, although parents will be informed about the help provided. The changes also concern teenagers' right to information about their health and rules for deciding on treatment in case of guardian objection.
Key points
Teenagers aged 13+ can use outpatient psychiatric care (excluding doctor visits) without parental consent.
Medical staff will inform parents about the help provided, unless they believe it could harm the teenager.
In a situation threatening the teenager's well-being, the case may go to the guardianship court.
Teenagers aged 13+ have the right to full information about their health and treatment from medical staff.
If a teenager aged 16+ agrees to treatment, but a parent objects, the court will make the decision.
