New rules for replacing mayors and dismissing deputies
The law changes who takes over the duties of the head of the commune (mayor, city president) when their term ends early. It also specifies situations where deputy heads automatically lose their positions along with the head.
Key points
If the head of the commune loses their position for specific election-related reasons, their deputy or deputies also lose their position.
If the head of the commune's term ends early, the deputy takes over, and if there is no deputy or they were dismissed, the Prime Minister appoints someone.
A deputy head loses their position if the head resigns or loses their mandate for other specific reasons while the deputy is performing their duties.
Persons appointed by the Prime Minister to temporarily act as head of the commune will be employed by the commune office, and their remuneration will be set by the Prime Minister.
The law clarifies when a council member or head of commune loses their local mandate after being elected to the Sejm, Senate, or European Parliament.
