Medical Education Reform: New Specialization and Entitlement Rules for Medical Professions
This law centralizes and changes postgraduate education rules for many medical professions, including nurses and midwives, whose specializations will now be state-co-financed. It also alters rules for qualifying children for vaccinations and extends deadlines for primary care doctors and paramedics to complete formalities.
Key points
State funding for nurse and midwife specializations: Specialization training will be financed from the state budget through the Medical Center of Postgraduate Education (CMKP), which takes over the tasks of the liquidated Center for Postgraduate Education of Nurses and Midwives.
More powers for nurses and midwives: They will be able to independently conduct qualifying examinations for vaccinations for children over 9 years of age.
More time for family doctors: Primary health care (POZ) doctors have more time, until the end of 2026, to complete the mandatory family medicine course. Doctors with at least 10 years of experience in POZ are exempt from this requirement.
Electronic certificates for doctors: After passing the final medical exam (LEK/LDEK), doctors will receive their results as an electronic certificate, simplifying administrative procedures.
Changes for paramedics: Deadlines for obtaining the 'Right to Practice' document and registering have been extended, making it easier for them to adapt to new regulations.
New rules for selecting the CMKP director: An open competition for the director of the Medical Center of Postgraduate Education is introduced, with clear requirements and a two-term limit.
