Easier Cable System Sales: More Competition for Citizens

New rules aim to simplify the sale and transfer of cable television systems by removing the requirement for local authority approval. This is intended to increase competition among internet and TV providers, potentially leading to better services and lower prices for consumers. Citizens may benefit from a wider choice of providers.
Key points
Local authorities will not be able to block cable system sales or require approval for their transfer.
Cable operators will only need to notify authorities of a transfer within 15 days.
The changes are set to take effect 6 months after enactment and apply to all existing and new franchises.
