End For-Profit Prisons: Government Takes Over Correctional Facilities

This act aims to gradually eliminate private companies from managing federal prisons and community confinement facilities. This means that in the future, government employees will be responsible for the care of individuals in federal custody. The act also introduces new information requirements for released prisoners, helping them reintegrate into society.
Key points
Within 6 years, federal prisons and detention centers will be managed exclusively by government employees, with exceptions for some state or local facilities.
Within 8 years, private companies will no longer be able to manage federal community confinement facilities (halfway houses).
Released prisoners will receive information and support regarding, among other things, employment barrier removal, educational programs, social assistance, and voter registration.
Mandatory regular inspections of facilities used by the U.S. Marshals Service and research on programs reducing recidivism are introduced.
