Increased Benefits for Combat-Disabled Veterans

The Major Richard Star Act aims to increase financial support for military veterans who receive disability retirement and also veterans' disability compensation. With this change, veterans with less than 20 years of service who sustained combat-related injuries will be able to receive full benefits from both sources, which was previously limited. This means more money for injured veterans and their families.
Key points
Military veterans with combat-related disabilities who retired with fewer than 20 years of service will be able to receive both military retired pay and full veterans' disability compensation.
The act removes previous limitations that reduced military retired pay for veterans if they also received disability compensation.
The changes will take effect on the first day of the first month after the act's enactment and will apply to payments from that date.
