K2 Veterans Care Act: New Health Benefits and Presumptions

This act aims to provide healthcare and benefits to veterans who served at Karshi Khanabad (K2) Air Base in Uzbekistan between 2001 and 2005 and were exposed to toxic substances. It will automatically consider certain diseases as service-connected, simplifying access to medical and financial aid.
Key points
Veterans who served at K2 Air Base from 2001-2005 will have easier access to healthcare and benefits.
Certain diseases linked to exposure to jet fuel, volatile organic compounds, burn pit dust, depleted uranium, asbestos, or lead-based paint will be presumed service-connected, even without extensive medical evidence.
The act expands the list of diseases eligible for benefits if determined by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to have a positive association with toxic exposure.
