Stricter rules for undetectable firearms: Modernizing detection requirements.

This Act modernizes the Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988 regarding firearms that are difficult to detect by security scanners, such as those used in airports. It redefines 'detectable material' and 'major component' and explicitly includes firearm prototypes. The legislation mandates that firearms must contain sufficient magnetic material to be detected by standard screening devices.
Key points
Detectability Requirement: Firearms must contain material producing a magnetic field equivalent to at least 3.7 ounces of 17–4 PH stainless steel.
New Definition of 'Major Component': Includes the slide, cylinder, frame, or receiver, and for rifles/shotguns, the barrel.
Scope Expansion: The prohibition now explicitly includes firearm prototypes.
Exemptions: The rules do not apply to firearms possessed by or under the control of the U.S. government, or manufacturing/importation under existing government contracts.
