Immigration Law Changes: Marijuana Use No Longer Bars Good Moral Character

This bill removes marijuana use, possession, and distribution from the list of factors preventing a person from being deemed of "good moral character" for immigration purposes. Consequently, past or current marijuana offenses will no longer be grounds for visa denial, inadmissibility to the U.S., or deportation. Individuals previously deported or denied entry directly as a result of marijuana offenses may reapply for admission.
Key points
Marijuana use, possession, or distribution will no longer prevent non-citizens from establishing good moral character for immigration purposes.
Individuals previously deported or denied entry directly as a result of marijuana offenses can reapply for admission to the United States.
The provision classifying a "habitual drunkard" as lacking good moral character is repealed.
