Companies to Disclose Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Plans Aligned with Paris Agreement

New rules require large public companies to disclose information about their plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This aims to increase transparency, allowing citizens and investors to assess how companies contribute to combating climate change. This information may influence consumer and investment decisions.
Key points
Companies must disclose whether they have greenhouse gas emission reduction targets consistent with the Paris Agreement (limiting global warming to 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius).
If a company does not have such targets, it must explain why and whether it supports the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement.
Companies will also report on actions taken and planned to achieve these emission targets.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will develop detailed rules for these disclosures within one year.
