Higher Tax-Free Employer-Provided Group Term Life Insurance

New rules increase the amount of employer-provided group term life insurance that is exempt from income tax. This means employees can receive significantly higher life insurance coverage from their company without paying additional taxes on it. This change can improve the financial security of families in the event of an employee's death.
Key points
The tax-free limit for employer-provided life insurance increases from $50,000 to $375,000.
The new $375,000 limit will be automatically adjusted for inflation in future years.
The changes apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2020.
