Family Support: Extended WIC Benefits for Children and Mothers

This act expands the WIC program, increasing the age of eligibility for children and extending the support period for breastfeeding and postpartum mothers. This aims to ensure better access to healthy food and nutrition education for families with young children.
Key points
Children will be eligible for WIC benefits until their sixth birthday, instead of their fifth.
Breastfeeding mothers will be eligible for WIC support for up to two years postpartum, instead of one year.
Postpartum mothers who are not breastfeeding will be eligible for WIC support for up to two years postpartum, instead of six months.
States can request waivers from the new implementation deadlines if they face technological barriers, high costs, or if it's in the best interest of the program.
