Mandatory Drinking Water Testing for Oil and Gas Operations

This act introduces new rules for testing underground drinking water sources near oil, gas, and geothermal energy extraction sites. Its purpose is to protect the quality of your drinking water through regular testing and public disclosure of results, enhancing safety and transparency of extraction companies' operations.
Key points
Extraction companies must test drinking water before drilling, every 6 months during operations, and for 5 years after completion.
Test results will be publicly available in an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) database, searchable by ZIP Code.
Tests must be conducted by certified laboratories and include substances indicating potential contamination from drilling.
