Easier Voter Registration for Federally Assisted Housing Residents

This new law aims to simplify voter registration for individuals living in federally assisted housing. Their lease agreement or annual income recertification will also serve as a voter registration application, unless they decline. Owners of such housing units will become voter registration agencies, increasing access to the voting process.
Key points
Lease agreements for federally assisted housing or annual income recertifications will automatically serve as voter registration applications for federal elections, unless the tenant declines.
Owners of federally assisted housing units (e.g., public housing agencies, private owners) will be designated as voter registration agencies, meaning they will assist with the registration process.
Information regarding a tenant's decision to decline voter registration will remain confidential and used solely for voter registration purposes.
