Basic needs allowance established for low-income regular military members.

This Act establishes a new financial benefit, the 'basic needs allowance,' for low-income regular members of the Armed Forces. The goal is to provide financial support to military families whose gross household income falls below 130% of the Federal poverty guidelines. This measure aims to address food insecurity among service members.
Key points
Introduction of a monthly financial allowance for service members whose household income is low (below 130% of the poverty threshold).
The allowance amount is calculated based on the difference between 130% of the poverty guidelines and the annual gross household income, divided by 12 months.
Service members will be notified of potential eligibility and must submit information to receive the allowance; they can also elect not to receive it.
The Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is excluded when calculating the gross household income for eligibility purposes.
