Easier Benefits for Veterans with Lung Diseases from Burn Pit Exposure.

This act simplifies the process for veterans to receive benefits for lung diseases like asthma or lung cancer, if they served in areas where open-air burn pits were used. This means they won't have to prove a direct link between their illness and service, speeding up access to care and support.
Key points
Veterans who served in locations with open-air burn pits after January 1, 1990, can more easily claim benefits for specific lung diseases.
The list of covered diseases includes asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and lung cancer, among others.
The act creates a presumption that these diseases are service-connected, even without direct evidence in service records.
The changes will take effect 180 days after enactment, providing quicker access to support for affected veterans.
