Support for Pollution-Affected Communities: Funds for Decision Participation

This act aims to provide financial support to communities most exposed to harmful air pollutants and those living near waste disposal facilities. With these funds, residents can actively participate in decisions affecting their health and safety, gaining access to expert knowledge and monitoring. This will increase their influence on local environmental decisions.
Key points
Pollution-affected communities will receive grants up to $50,000 to participate in decisions impacting their health and safety.
Funds can be used for interpreting hazard data, health impact studies, and air pollution monitoring.
Support is directed at communities of color, indigenous, and low-income populations living near pollution sources or waste facilities.
The act authorizes $5 million annually for these purposes from fiscal years 2022 through 2026.
