Mandatory Paid Sick Leave: 56 Hours for Health and Family Care.

This Act establishes a federal standard allowing most employees to earn up to 56 hours of paid time off annually. This time can be used for personal health needs, caring for sick family members, or addressing issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault. The goal is to ensure workers do not have to choose between their income and their health or family responsibilities.
Key points
Employees accrue 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 56 hours per year.
Leave can be used for medical treatment, caring for a child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner, and for legal actions related to domestic violence.
Employers are prohibited from penalizing or firing employees for exercising their right to use this earned paid time off, and unused time carries over to the next year.
Smaller employers (fewer than 15 employees) must provide 56 hours of unpaid sick time for the same purposes.
