Easier disposal of unused medications at veterans' facilities.

New rules will make it easier to safely dispose of unused medications, including opioids, at selected veterans' medical facilities. This will provide citizens with access to dedicated locations where they can drop off expired or unneeded medications, contributing to increased safety and reduced risk of controlled substance abuse.
Key points
Selected veterans' medical facilities (with an onsite pharmacy or law enforcement area) must provide drug disposal locations.
Any individual will be able to safely dispose of controlled substances at these locations.
The provisions take effect on January 1, 2022, increasing access to safe medication disposal methods.
