Protecting Internet Users from Rate Hikes and Data Caps During Crises.

This bill aims to protect citizens using home broadband internet during major disasters or public health emergencies. Fixed broadband providers would be prohibited from increasing rates, imposing new fees, or enforcing data caps throughout the crisis period and for 60 days afterward. This ensures continuous and affordable internet access when connectivity is most critical for safety and communication.
Key points
Bans rate increases and new fees for fixed broadband internet service in areas declared a major disaster or public health emergency.
Suspends the enforcement of data caps or allowances for home internet during the crisis and for 60 days following its termination.
These protections do not apply to mobile broadband services (e.g., cellular data), except for services provided by educational institutions to students.
