Contraception Access for Servicemembers and Dependents Act
This act aims to ensure full access to contraception without additional costs for all servicemembers and their families covered by the TRICARE program. This includes both prescription drugs and contraception-related services like counseling or procedures. Additionally, it introduces mandatory family planning education programs for servicemembers and provides immediate pregnancy prevention assistance to sexual assault survivors at military medical facilities.
Key points
No out-of-pocket costs for contraception: Servicemembers and their families covered by TRICARE will not incur costs for contraceptive drugs, counseling, sterilization procedures, or related education.
Family planning education: Mandatory education programs will be established for all servicemembers, providing information on contraceptive methods, preventing unintended pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections.
Support for sexual assault survivors: Military medical facilities must immediately offer sexual assault survivors information and access to emergency contraception and other pregnancy prevention methods.
