Tuition Transparency: Know Your College Costs Upfront

New rules aim to help students and families better plan for education expenses. Colleges will be required to provide clear information about tuition costs for multiple years in advance, preventing financial surprises. This will enable citizens to make informed decisions about their choice of college and study programs.
Key points
Colleges must provide students with multi-year tuition and fee schedules or single-year schedules with multi-year net cost estimates after financial aid.
Cost information will include projected year-to-year increases or decreases for the entire duration of the student's program.
For single-year estimates, institutions must disclose the average deviation between past estimates and actual net costs.
In exceptional circumstances, such as severe economic distress for the institution, the multi-year disclosure requirement may be waived.
