Key points
Establishes a new offense: straw purchasing of firearms, with penalties up to 15 years imprisonment, or up to 25 years if the firearm is intended for a violent crime.
Creates a new offense: trafficking in two or more firearms, with penalties up to 15 years imprisonment, or up to 25 years for organizers of larger criminal enterprises.
Mandates forfeiture of property (money and assets) obtained from or used in illegal firearms trafficking.
Increases penalties for knowingly transferring firearms to prohibited persons or for use in a crime.
Strengthens provisions related to smuggling firearms into and out of the U.S., particularly in connection with drug trafficking and violent crimes.
