Hazard Pay for Frontline Healthcare and Essential Workers

This act aims to provide additional payments to high-risk healthcare workers and other essential workers who provided services during the COVID-19 pandemic. These funds are intended to acknowledge their efforts and the risks they faced, and will not be counted as income for federal benefit eligibility.
Key points
High-risk healthcare workers may receive up to $35,000 (or $15,000 for those earning over $200,000 annually) in hazard payments, calculated at $18.50 per hour, up to 40 hours per week.
Other essential workers may receive up to $25,000 (or $5,000 for those earning over $200,000 annually) in hazard payments, calculated at $13.00 per hour, up to 40 hours per week.
These payments will not be considered income for federal program eligibility, meaning they will not negatively impact access to other assistance programs.
Employers are prohibited from reducing regular pay or discriminating against employees for receiving these hazard payments.
