Support for Military Mothers: Leave, Postpartum Care, and Fitness Tests

This act improves postpartum care for service members and their families by extending parental leave, introducing new health assessments, and modifying physical fitness test rules after childbirth. The goal is to better support mothers serving in the military and their children.
Key points
Parental leave for service members and their families will be extended to 12 weeks, separate from medical convalescent leave.
Mandatory postpartum mental health assessments and referrals for pelvic floor examinations will be introduced.
Female service members will not be required to take a physical fitness test for one year after giving birth.
A pilot program will be launched to streamline postpartum appointments at military medical facilities, combining various examinations into a single visit.
