COVID-19 Reimbursement and Reporting Quality Assurance: Approved Tests Only

New rules aim to ensure federal funds for COVID-19 testing and treatment are only disbursed when approved tests were used. This means government agencies will scrutinize reimbursement requests, and false reports will be penalized. The goal is to improve the accuracy of COVID-19 data and protect public funds.
Key points
Reimbursements for COVID-19 testing and treatment will only be granted if approved tests were used.
Federal agencies will review each reimbursement request, denying or recovering funds if the test was not approved.
Official COVID-19 case and death counts will be corrected to exclude data based on unapproved tests.
Knowingly reporting a false COVID-19 diagnosis will result in up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine.
